We are not trying to publish everything.
We are building a list worth remembering.
Our interests lie at the intersection of scholarship, literature, language and cultural memory. We work with authors whose manuscripts have something meaningful to contribute—and with translators and researchers whose work can help ideas cross linguistic and geographical boundaries.
As a new press, we are deliberately building our catalogue with care.
That means fewer books, closer editorial attention and long-term relationships with the authors we choose to publish.
When we consider a manuscript, we ask three straightforward questions:
Does it introduce an original argument, preserve valuable knowledge, offer a distinctive literary voice, document a language or culture, or provide a meaningful perspective on its subject?
Every book has an intended readership. We consider whether that readership is academic, professional, educational, literary, regional, international—or some combination of these.
A manuscript should have a reason to belong on our list. We look for projects that align with our editorial interests and with the kind of publishing house we are building
